Dear Reader and Visitor,

KUMID 's members Assoc. Dr. Fatma Banu ÇAKAN and Dr. Murat ÇAKAN translated some of the important publications of Canadian Conservation Institute (CCI) from Engilish to Turkish and made them ready for you who have dedicated your interests to the preservation of cultural assets..

The translated texts were edited by the head of KUMID, Mrs. Saadet GÜNER and were made  ready for printing by KUMID volunteer Miss Deniz SERBEST.

We are honored to present you the results of this voluntary based translation campaign during  year 2020-2021 in which COVID pandemic has been affecting our lives heavily.

The first version you will encounter in our pages is a digital one.  However soon you will be able to hold in your hands the printed versions of the translated documents.

We sincerely hope that the digital and printed publications will help experts, academicians,  museum staff, decision makers, directors and students in their affiliations.  In the meantime we will be happy to hear your critisms, suggestions and precious comments.

Content: UV radiation is highly energetic and tends to affect the stability of materials that make up an object. Prolonged exposure can result in the weakening of organic materials like textiles, paper, paint binders and plastics, with degradation often evident by increased brittleness, cracking or chalking (as can happen with paint films). There are two main approaches for reducing the effects of UV on displayed objects. In the text, besides these two ways, filtering, testing-checking ... etc works are explained.
